About Keeping Music Alive

Who We Are

K.M.A (Keeping Music Alive) is a non-profit organization comprised of some of the finest high school musicians in the Monterey Bay area. We come from four different schools (York School, Pacific Grove High School, Carmel High School, and Stevenson School) and as a whole play clarinet, flute, saxophone, guitar, piano, violin, viola, cello, percussion, trumpet, and trombone. Although there exists diversity in personality and character in the group, we all share the passion of music and the determination to help others have the opportunity of experiencing the beauty of music.

Our Mission

We go to elementary schools lacking a music program and provide them one for free. We go to these schools and teach the students how to play the instrument of their choice. As they mature in their playing, we slowly expose them to ensembles, and our goal is to create a band or orchestra and perform for the public. This is our ideal scenario, but generally speaking, our mission is to give as many elementary school kids we can reach the gift of music, the opportunity to experience what we have been fortunate enough to.

We believe music is an integral part of one's education and just as important as core classes like Math, English, and History. Consequently, we also believe that this valuable education should not be limited to those who can afford it. Keeping Music Alive is our way of helping the community in this time of depression. By harnessing our talents to provide invaluable opportunities to the youth in our community, we hope to make a positive, lasting impact on these children's lives.
